Important early Coco Chanel fringe metal chain statement necklace – comprised out of hundreds of green and red glass beads by Maison Gripoix and cream-colored pearls by Maison Rousselet. The beads, pearls, and metal findings have been assembled in a manner that creates a dramatic Mughal-inspired design. What makes this necklace a rare find and a collector’s item is the time which it was created, circa 1930 – 1940 (pre-WWI). The 1930s were also a pivotal point in Coco Chanel’s career, as she was transitioning from art-deco to Byzantine and Mughal-inspired design. An example of this necklace can be seen in French Vogue 1939.
Good. Replacements made: some of the old pearls from the 1930s were replaced by newer ones, thats how I acquired the piece. Wear consistent with age and use.
