A Closer Look at the Hublot Big Bang Sapphire

The Big Bang helped to transform the Hublot brand in 2005. The model evolved from the founder’s original vision. The Big Bang was later realised by the legendary Jean-Claude Biver. Finally, the model was critical in establishing the Hublot brand as it is known today.

The Birth of the Big Bang Unico Sapphire

The Big Bang collection has evolved in a way that few other watches have over the years. The introduction of the Big Bang Unico Sapphire in 2016 was a prime example. Biver’s early “phantom” versions of the Big Bang may have foreshadowed this concept. Instead of an all-white model, Hublot has chosen to contrast an all-black model with a completely clear one. The brand achieved this distinct appearance by using a three-part sapphire crystal case, bezel, and caseback. This is an industry first for the production of a large-scale series of watches with sapphire cases cut from blocks of sapphire. They also used transparent resin to create the skeletonized dial. The monochromatic, clear colour scheme extends to the dial’s transparent elements, such as the hands, and even the original strap. The end result is a truly one-of-a-kind take on the iconic Big Bang Theory that boldly displays each and every working part.

Unico Sapphire Under the Hood of the Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Unico Sapphire’s appearance is undeniably eye-catching – perhaps even mesmerising. However, the true beauty of this model lies beneath the hood, even if that hood is transparent. The Unico HUB1242 movement is housed in the 45mm automatic flyback chronograph. It has 28 jewels and operates at 4Hz. The model also has a 72-hour power reserve, a water resistance of 100 metres, and a column wheel transmission. Of course, you can see all of this in all of its splendour through the dial. The brand incorporates titanium and silicon elements, in addition to the transparent construction. They combine to form an incredibly light and surprisingly wearable timepiece.

The Big Bang Unico Sapphire is more than just a unique design.

There’s definitely a wow factor at work with the Big Bang Unico Sapphire. Despite the fact that it is a limited edition of only 500 pieces, it is the first large scale, serially produced model to feature this type of sapphire construction. Despite its beauty, the model is actually quite adaptable. The model’s transparent design allows it to be paired with any strap. The Big Bang Unico Sapphire is completely adaptable to your personal style or desire to switch up the look. We fitted it with a brand-new aftermarket rubber strap with a genuine Hublot buckle from our stock. The contrasting black really helps the silver inner workings stand out against the clear construction for a striking overall look.
